Franchise Document Legalization
This can be an intimidating process for franchisors wishing to expand into foreign markets. Not only can it be quite costly, but also it can be difficult to align with the ideal local law firm in each country. While some domestic attorneys are aligned with global partner firms (which can help), often you are paying far more than local market pricing. Our suggestion is to always do local research with "boots on the ground" whenever possible. Some firms are among the most respected and positioned within their markets not only to craft the ideal agreement, but also to help enforce it should it ever become disputed in the future. In fact some firms, based on their name and associated standing, will help to avoid potentially frivolous cases in the first place (based in part on their local reputation). Foreign agreements generally must be adopted to each local market, so whether you work with your local attorney and their international network, or source a local attorney (best on the ground, not remotely), one way or another this is certainly an essential step to a successful and prudent international launch.
